How to Connect Claude Cowork and Claude.ai to dfin.pro MCP

How to Connect Claude Cowork and Claude.ai to dfin.pro MCP

Claude is a powerful AI assistant, but out of the box it relies on training data with a knowledge cutoff. Connecting it to dfin.pro changes that — once linked, Claude Cowork and Claude.ai can pull real financial data into your conversations on demand. Ask about a company's recent filings, compare earnings across years, or dig into financial ratios, and Claude will reach for dfin.pro rather than guessing.

This guide walks you through the setup for Claude Cowork desktop app and the Claude.ai website. The process is the same for both and takes about two minutes.

Security - Avoid leaks

Before you begin, a quick heads-up about keeping your key safe. Unlike some AI tools, Claude does not support hidden authorization headers, so your dfin.pro API key is embedded directly in the server URL you paste during setup. That URL is unique to your account — treat it like a password.

Avoid sharing it in screenshots, copied configs, emails, or support tickets. If you think your URL has been exposed, regenerate your API key from your dfin.pro account settings before reconnecting.

Set the URL

You can use the dfin.pro MCP connector through Claude.ai and Claude Cowork. The steps below are the same for both — just the starting point differs.

For Claude.ai, make sure you're signed in and go to: https://www.claude.ai/customize

Claude customize page before opening connector settings

If you're using the Claude Cowork desktop app, open the Cowork tab and click Customize in the left menu.

From here, the steps are identical. Click Connectors in the left menu, then click Add Custom Connector.

Fill in just two fields:

  • Name: dfin.pro
  • Remote MCP server URL: https://www.dfin.pro/mcp/<your-api-key>

You don't need to fill in anything under OAuth — leave those blank and click Add.

Back at the Connectors screen, you should see the dfin.pro tools listed. Toggle Always allow on so Claude doesn't ask for permission each time it uses the data.

Test Run

Back in the chat window, try asking a question that needs financial data — something like "What were Alphabet's revenue and margins last year?" or "Show me Apple's earnings trend over the past five years." Claude should pull the answer straight from dfin.pro.
